The product reviewed is the ViewSonic Tablet
PC V1100. The full review can be found here.
"Firstly, allow me to state that I
believe Tablets are the future of laptop/portable
computing. In the near future, traditional
laptops that do NOT covert into Tablets
(to be walked around with, etc...) will
cease to exist. That's why I was especially
excited to test the Viewsonic PC V1100 in
the 'real world'. I used it primarily to
give a Seminar to a group of doctors about
mobile computing, communication, and the
use of presentation technologies - and it
served me quite well! With 2 USB ports,
a VGA plug, it was quite easy to set up
the V1100 for presentation purposes: I simply
plugged in the Wireless presentation remote
to one USB port, keyboard and mouse to the
other (the handy adaptor: USB to PS2/PS2
(keyboard/mouse) came with the unit), the
VGA out to the projector, and I was ready
to go. They Tablet is sufficiently fast,
running Windows XP Table PC edition."
"The big downfall of the unit is the
lack of 'convertibility' into a traditional
laptop. Let's face it, as good as handwriting
recognition can be (right now), to input
any lengthy amount of data (typing reviews,
etc...), we need a real, near-full-size
QWERTY keyboard. Besides, most computer-inclined
people type much faster and more accurately
than they handwrite anyway - I know I do!
Without the built-in keyboard, this unit
has very limited practicality. It's like
the two-seater roadster... for most people,
it's can't be your ONLY car. This makes
the Viewsonic V1100 only good for specific
applications that require mobility and little
data input, or only good as an additional
unit, besides a traditional laptop/desktop/PDA."
